#241 Finalizing next round of proposals

Brian Frank Fri 2 Jan 2015

The last big update we did was 2.0.5 in August. We got some thorny problems solved in that update: we finally nailed down VFDs and reworked the meter model. Since then we've had a lot of great discussion which I would like to move forward for standardization.

The process I followed in August was to have a bunch of phone calls with various experts to narrow down the discussion to a final proposal. But its fairly time intensive for me and unfortunately I'm not really a domain expert on any of these topics. So I would like to explore different ways to move these discussions into formal, completely drafted proposals.

I've gone thru the posts and have listed below the discussions for various proposals. I've first grouped them into small projects versus large projects in terms of effort. Lets me know if I've overlooked anything.

I would like to ask for volunteers to champion and lead each these proposals. Some of the large proposals need to be prioritized because I think we can only tackle one or two of them at a time. I'm thinking terminal units should be our top priority, followed by a complete solution for zones/spaces.

If you a domain expert on one of these topics and care enough to spend time to see it thru into a final proposal, then please respond to this post and claim one or more topics. For the large projects I think we need at least two or three people to volunteer as champions. I am scheduling time for a working group at Haystack Connect in May. But in the meantime, I will schedule some phone calls with various volunteers to keep things moving forward.

Small Projects

  • 208: Lead/lag tagging for pumps
  • 228: AHU preHeat point
  • 197: enhance set points with occ and unocc (we are close)
  • 232: source/load, consumption/production
  • 231: volt/current angle measurements

Large Projects

  • 97, 222: comprehensive solution for terminal units
  • 206: comprehensive design for spaces and zones (floors, wings, VAV zones, lighting, etc)
  • 56: solar hot water systems
  • 103: override points - this has been a very difficult problem to arrive at a resolution, but its very important
  • 238: project/job tracking
  • 238: demand response events

I am going to try and finalize some of the existing topics and update the docs in next week or two. This is what I'm planning to add where I feel we have solid consensus:

  • 258 new JSON syntax
  • 197 enhanced zone temp setpoint tags
  • 274 additional VAV/terminal unit tags

The other topics listed about need more domain expert input...
