#206 "zone" tag

Denis OConnor Tue 2 Sep 2014

In topic #196 we used the tag "stage:1"

Does this translate into the following standardization for other tags?

zone:1 air temp sensor

zone:2 air temp sensor

zone:1 air temp sp

zone:2 air temp sp

That really isn't how the zone tag is defined today, its designed to be a marker. To assign points/equip to zone/spaces is not really standardized yet - but most likely they would be their own entities and associated via ref tag

The following zones as "entities" would make sense to me:

  1. hotWaterZone
  2. chilledWaterZone
  3. steamZone
  4. airZone
  5. lightingZone
  6. compressedAirZone

The zone boundaries are determined by the piping, ductwork, wiring and associated valves, pumps, dampers, switches etc. that control energy to specific areas.

If hotWaterZone:1 originates in the central plant with hot water pump 1, and multiple zone valves are provided hot water from the pump; items could be tagged with:

  1. hotWaterZone:1 hot water return temp
  2. hotWaterZone:1 hot water return temp sp
  3. hotWaterZone:1 pump cmd
  4. hotWaterZone:1a air temp sensor
  5. hotWaterZone:1a air temp sp
  6. hotWaterZone:1a hot water valve cmd

Would it make sense to use the following tags so that a zone could be evaluated as an entity?

energyZone

spaceZone

The energyZone boundaries are determined by the piping, ductwork, wiring and associated valves, pumps, dampers, switches etc. that control energy to specific areas. Items such as irrigationZone could be added to the list of 6 items listed above.

The spaceZone would have the flexibility to be used to identify areas that have functional or thermal characteristics.
