A heatpipe is a tube filled with a small amount of refrigerant. The tube can act as a heat exchanger by allowing the refrigerant to boil at one end of the tube (hot side) and condense (cool side). It is used in air to air heat exchangers for heat recovery and is really not a refrigerant system as it acts in a typically passive way with no mechanical moving parts. (see www.heatpipe.com)
