Have you tried setting up a time zone alias? Section 5.2 of the documentation describes how to do that, it should probably fix your problem. "EDT" is not a valid timezone in the official timezone database.

No I have not done that. Sometimes my fingers are faster than my brain. I will read Section 5.2 and correct my issue. Keep up the good work guys.

I'm using US/Eastern as my timezone and it is throwing an error on every point.
ERROR [09:31:42 29-Apr-14 EDT][nhaystack] Cannot create tz tag: Unknown tz: US/Eastern
